On October 19, millions of people worldwide participated in the Great ShakeOut. On this day, at 10:19 a.m., schools, organizations and individual practiced how to ‘Drop, Cover, and Hold On’ – the essential steps for safety during an earthquake.

In Southern California, The Hero In You Foundation was proud to partner with dozens of leading emergency safety organizations for the Great California ShakeOut at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles to provide on-site resources and educate families and their children how to best stay safe during an earthquake!

Check out some images from the day below:

Earthquake Safety Dancers were at the Foundation’s booth, performing to the tune of the new “Drop. Cover. Hold On!” song (listen here)!

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti attended the ShakeOut, letting all Angelenos know the importance of having an emergency safety plan ahead of time. Here he is with Founder Bunni Benaron:

Bunni also connected with Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas to share our new book, ‘Rocket’s Earthquake Safety Adventure!’

Then came time for the earthquake drill at 10:19 a.m.! Luckily, our team had practiced what to do ahead of time: Drop, Cover and Hold On!

Huge thanks to Mark Benthien with the Southern California Earthquake Center, the entire ShakeOut team, and all participating partners for helping spread the importance of earthquake preparedness. Together, we can save lives and keep families safe.
