On Halloween, Rocket Rules partnered with Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network (CVDPN) at the Living Desert, in Palm Desert, California and distributed hundreds of backpacks, books and materials for kids to prepare and learn about earthquake safety.

In 1944, the US Forest Service was looking for a way to promote forest fire prevention, and decided a fictional bear named Smokey would be the perfect messenger. “Only YOU can prevent forest fires!” Remember it? Of course you do. It was burnt into the psyche of every kid growing up in this country. Smokey became a national icon. Now, the question is will Rocket?
In 2014, Bunni and Rick Benaron founded The Hero In You Foundation as a way to honor first responders, but the project has morphed into a campaign that teaches kids to use their common sense and their senses to stay safe and be ready for emergencies.
We live in a beautiful valley — and we also live with the daily knowledge that earthquakes are part of our reality. As adults, we’re aware of crucial safety measures, but it’s very important that our children know how to be prepared as well.
